If all you see is a free cut, you're missing the point

People face a great many challenges these days. Here are some that have either touched me or loved ones. It's my mission to support the citizens in The Valley of The Sun by letting them know: they are not alone, I can connect them with care, and recovery is possible.e,

Depression

Depression can affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities.


Symptoms include:

Persistent sad, “empty,” or anxious mood.


Loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyed.


Decreased energy, fatigue, and increased need for sleep.


Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.


Feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, or guilt.

Thoughts of death or suicide.


There are effective treatments for mild, moderate, and severe depression. Help is available.


Diabetes

Over 38.4 million citizens have diabetes, which is 11.6% of the US population. Half of them don't know.


Cases of Type 2 diabetes have doubled in America in the past 20 years.


The average person's life expectancy can be reduced by up to 10 years with type 2 diabetes and by more than 20 years for people with type 1 diabetes.


Diabetes can  cause blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, and amputations.


Diabetes can be treated and managed with diet, exercise, medication, and regular checkups.


 

Heart Disease

At 647,000, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US annually.


In the US, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds. About 605,000 of these are first time heart attacks. 


Risk factors for heart disease include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, unhealthy diet, obesity, & physical inactivity.  


About half of heart attack deaths occur within an hour of the attack.
